Kverkfjöll - Akurayri - Laugafell

31 augustus 2017

We drove first up to Myvatn area, and then to Akureyri to get some food and fuel.
On the road through the middle of nowhere we passed some people doing a very challenging run through Iceland. A total of 250 km, the Fire and Ice Ultra 250 km. About 70 people are doing this run which takes 6 days.
Along the way we were stopped and asked to take someone to the next checkpoint, it was a man from Manchester who was very ill and had to quit. Sorry for him, but he already finished this run in 2015.

After fuelling, shopping for food and having a quick lunch we drove back into the highlands. The map, included in this blog doesn't know all the places we have been to. We ended in the hut at Laugafell. We had it for ourselves. Other people were camping or in the other hut. We had a nice bath in the natural hot pot, saw some northern lights.

The pictures of northern lights will be added later. Need to find out which one shows the lights well. A lot of black pictures but some captured it ;-)
